About BMSA

admin July 16th, 2007

Devoted to the sailing and social interests of its members, Blue Marsh Sailing Association (BMSA) is about 170 members strong. Founded in 1980 in Reading, Pennsylvania with our home base at Blue Marsh Lake, we are celebrating over 20 years of friendships and fun!

We offer a full calendar of activities and programs year ’round:

  • Races
  • Weekend sailing trips
  • Extended cruises to international venues as the British Virgin Islands, St. Martin, Greece, and the Grenadines.
  • Social activities such as GPS rallies, bike rides, dinner theatre, holiday parties, bowling nights, auctions, and the culmination of our year, The Commodore’s Ball.
  • Informative meeting programs
  • Informal learn-to-sail program

We participate in the Annual Water Safety Festival held locally, which is a model for other festivals nationally. Our members also support the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and are part of the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Clubs Association which offers reciprocal privileges among its many yacht club members.

We meet monthly during which there is a brief business meeting, then a program of special interest. Our meetings are open to the public and we invite you to join us. BMSA meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month with a social at 7:00 and the meeting/program beginning at 7:30. The meetings are held at the Lower Heidelberg Fire Hall located on Brownsville Road at the end of State Hill Road in Reading, PA. Click here for directions.

The best thing about the Blue Marsh Sailing Association is that you don’t need to have a boat to be a member. If you have a desire to learn to sail or just go along for the ride and be a crewperson, there are plenty of opportunities to do that. So, take a walk through our site and see what we’re about. It might be just what you’ve been looking for.
