August 24th Race Draws Four Boats

THIRD RACE OF SEASON HELD AUGUST 24

Four Boats

Our third race of the season was contested by four boats Russ Witzke with crew George Ferris, Armondo Antonini with Conrad Vanino, Tony and Mary Stajkowski, and Tom Stoner with Ron Hrabak.  Years ago the club awarded me the Turtle Award as I capsized twice.  I want all to know that we have a new champion- Armando.  He has two this year and coupled with the one in the 2006 Regatta he now has three.   He didn’t even wait to start racing before he got it out of his system by capsizing while tied up at the dock!

Back to the races- all two of them.  At the start the wind was up and showing lots of promise so we called the first race as ABC twice around.  Even at 12:00 the wind was fairly steady so we called the same race again but we no sooner got started and the wind started dying.  We managed to finish the race but the wind had diminished to the point of not making a third race enjoyable.  Russ took the day with a 1-1; Armando was second with a 2-2 and I was third with a 3-3.

Thanks go as ever to wife Jan for her work as race committee head assisted by Betty and Lou Brown.  Thanks also to the chase boat crew- Barb Vanino, and Jay and Jane Moyer.  We welcomed past member, Bev Bonnville, back to watch the races.  She has moved from Lake City, MI to Hellertown near Allentown.
